This body of work represents mental illness and forms a narrative of how these disorders disturb the spirit. All pieces contain similar imagery such as bandages, visceral colors, and broken sticks – a commentary on the unsettled mind.
In this exhibition, many of the pieces are hung as a matched pair. One piece showcases raw and exposed colors and textures, while the second piece (containing the same elements as the first) is covered in a single color. Reminiscent of prescription pill coatings, these bright hues attempt to hide the illness, which can still be seen seething beneath the surface.
This work has been in process for the past two years. Both of us have faced much during that time, but found that creating these pieces together was healing in its own way.
